Abstract

A college teaching certificate program was established in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University comprising of two courses. The first course deals with the theory and practice of teaching engineering, in which students are introduced to both the pedagogy of teaching engineering and the practical aspects. The second course involves a mentored teaching experience under the supervision of a college faculty member. The students found all the lecture material useful for their teaching endeavors, but they perceived the minilecture to be most useful. The participants of the program were very confident about their teaching experience and believed that it is of value in both teaching and in their career development.
